One of the benefits of adopting is the friends I've made during the process.  These are the "Connected Child" friends I have. We meet a couple of times a month to talk about

This book is great for understanding raising all children, not just adopted children.  There are many insights and structures to help parents understand their children and behaviors they display as well as effective reactions to behaviors that might be misunderstood.

It's a great resource to go back to after reading it for reminding

some of the daughters in our adoption group
When I reflect on this book - the quote that pops into my head is that these children need to be treated with kindness (even when they've done something you would consider to be wrong or 'bad' and you need to correct them or discipline them). They didn't ask to be in the trauma of adoption.  Their lives have been disrupted and they've had to develop coping mechanisms to help them deal with things that they cannot control.
They have to deal with scary questions like:
Who will hurt me next?
Who will feed me?
What / When can I eat?
Who will love me?
How will I stay warm?

If you have adopted or are considering adopting - a child of any age - this is a great resource.  It's not the only resource though.  What are you reading?

We missed you at our Connected Child study group last night. So, I got to hold Mason and you didn't, nah, nah, nah!

I got to hold Mason too, but I have better manners than rubbing it in Kathy, heehee. Have I told you lately, thank you for being courageous in adopting two older children? Your model has inspired us to follow the path you already blazed. Your "two less" has turned into "two more less."
Thanks for being a part of our Connected Child group. We've missed you!!!
